Kiseto Cylindrical Matcha Bowl
黄瀬戸筒型 抹茶碗A kiseto matcha bowl made by Kazufumi Wada, the fourth-generation potter at Keizan kiln in Toki, Gifu Prefecture. Each piece is thrown on the wheel into a clean, cylindrical form.
The glaze is kiseto made with 100% natural ash. The gloss is deliberately restrained, giving the bowl a calm, golden hue. The character of the clay shows softly through, lending a quiet depth.
Wada selects and blends the clay and the glaze himself. He shapes each form on the wheel and fires it.
Even with the same clay and the same techniques, the finished colors vary. Shape and size, too, differ slightly from piece to piece. Uneven coloring, glaze drips, iron speckles, small blemishes and slight warping are all part of the individuality born in the kiln and from the work of the hand.
What is made by hand sits well in the hand. Held with its front in mind, the bowl settles comfortably into your palms. It arrives in a wooden box inscribed by Wada's own brush. A bowl we recommend both for your daily cup and as a gift for someone dear.
