Kigaru ("Carefree") Shoulder Bag

Made by Yota Abe

A shoulder bag designed to be used "with ease": the metal fittings, which tend to feel heavy, are kept out of sight so that the beautiful texture of the leather takes center stage. The junction between the bag body and the shoulder strap—where fittings usually cluster—was resolved by sharing a single band that also gathers the drape of the gusset.

When you are carrying little, the shoulder strap draws the drape in, pulling the bag into a compact shape.

The interior, loosely divided by a partition, lets you change the proportions of the two compartments depending on what you carry and how you use it.

Care Instructions

Leather finish
oceano products are made with vegetable-tanned oil leather. Because natural hide is used, the leather may show scars or slight unevenness in color; please understand these as part of the leather's character.
The leather has a dye finish with a rich hand, so no protective coating such as lacquer has been applied. Please take care with exposure to water and color transfer.

Care
The leather used in oceano products is oil leather with a high oil content, so oil conditioning is generally not necessary.
Wipe the whole surface with a cloth, and use a brush to remove dust from the stitching and folded areas where it collects.
Afterwards, check for scratches and scuffs, as well as corners and other areas that dry out easily,
and if needed apply a small amount of leather oil (we recommend a plant-based product such as Renapur Leather Treatment).
Please note that applying too much oil can cause color transfer, loss of shape, and a clouding of the leather's surface.
The best care for oil leather is simply to use it. Enjoy the way it changes moment by moment as you carry and use it each day.

If it gets wet
Water can cause the leather to lose its shape and can lead to color transfer.
Wipe the surface water away with a cloth, dry it in the shade in a well-ventilated place, and once dry apply a thin coat of oil all over before using it again.
Tannin-tanned leather is pliable, so it will dry holding whatever shape it had while wet.
When drying in the shade, keep it in as neat a shape as possible. For bags, stuffing them with a rolled towel or newspaper to hold their shape is also effective.
Dye-finished leather is especially prone to color bleeding when wet.
If it does get wet, be mindful of color transfer and take care not to rub it against clothing.
