Phoenix Wabori Talisman
鳳凰 和彫りタリスマンWada Chokin Kobo is a workshop in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, devoted to "chokin" — the art of carving pictures into metal with a chisel (tagane) and hammer. Shunsuke Wada, the fourth-generation craftsman, carries on the technique.
The motif here is the phoenix (hoo). Said to be a harbinger of auspicious events, this bird has long appeared in kimono patterns, on ceramics, and even on Japanese banknotes. It is cherished as a lucky bird that brings harmony, peace, prosperity, and success. When its life comes to an end, it is said to throw itself into the flames and rise again — an immortal bird, and a symbol of rebirth and hope.
"WABORI TALISMAN" is a brass amulet accessory that combines Japanese aesthetics with pop culture. The phoenix design has been rendered in three dimensions and reworked into a pendant top. The form is made by lost-wax casting and finished with traditional black dyeing using an oxidizing solution.
The chain is 50cm long and comes with an adjuster. A lobster clasp is included, so it can also be used as a keyring.
Brass deepens in character the more it is used. Care for it, and enjoy the way its appearance changes over time.
