Skull Wabori Talisman
髑髏 和彫りタリスマンWada Chokin Kobo is a workshop in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, devoted to chokin — the art of engraving pictures into metal with a tagane chisel and hammer. Shunsuke Wada, the fourth-generation craftsman, carries on the technique.
The motif here is the skull. It speaks of life's impermanence and change, reminding us that we live only once. Regarded as a good-luck charm since the age of the samurai, it appeared in ukiyo-e prints and on kabuki costumes alike. It is also a symbol of the strength to overcome fear and set out on a new life.
"WABORI TALISMAN" is a line of brass talisman accessories that brings together Japanese aesthetics and pop culture. The skull design has been rendered in three dimensions and reworked into a pendant top. The form is made by lost-wax casting and finished with traditional black dyeing using an oxidizing solution.
The chain is 50cm long and comes with an adjuster. A lobster clasp is included, so it can also be used as a key holder.
Brass deepens in character the more it is used. Care for it, and enjoy the way its appearance changes over time.
