Flower Dance Burgundy

A glass-and-urushi plate on which flowers, leaves, and trailing vines spread across a deep red ground in fine gold lines. The pattern, built up from layers of gold powder, is finished using the maki-e technique.

The depth of the red and the way the color settles differ slightly from plate to plate. The expression also shifts with the quality and angle of the light.

Beyond the clear glass, you can see the deep red urushi and the golden pattern. Because the surface is glass, it resists scratches even when used with a knife and fork, and it is dishwasher safe.

The tone of the urushi shifts little by little over time. This aging, too, is part of the character of urushi.

Available in three sizes: S, M, and L.
