Onagadori Long-Tailed Rooster & Marigold - Kimono Aloha Shirt

A "Hinomoto Aloha" shirt made by Ningyo no Wataya in Moka City, Tochigi Prefecture. Rather than remaking an old kimono, it is tailored from new kimono cloth. The patterns of kimono are brought to an aloha shirt you can wear every day or on your travels. It can be washed with water at home, so care is simple.

The pattern features Onagadori long-tailed roosters and marigolds. Blue blossoms spread across a pale blue-green ground, accented by vermilion flowers. Flowing water is drawn between the blooms, with long-tailed birds lined up alongside. The quiet waterside scene leaves the wearer feeling refreshed and at ease.

The material is polyester cloth of the kind used for fine kimono. It has a silk-like feel, resists water, is wrinkle-resistant, and is highly durable. Because the cloth is new, there is none of the fading or staining found on old kimono.

Unisex, with a relaxed cut. Size XL, suited to a chest measurement of 103–110 cm.

The sewing is done by hand by artisans within Tochigi Prefecture. From cutting the cloth to the finishing touches there are as many as 10 steps, and only one shirt can be sewn in a day. The buttons are made of lustrous domestic Japanese bamboo.
